wolverine escape the telepaths trap guide

Destroy the two incense burners, use Impaling Strikes in the illusion, and restart from checkpoint if the sequence bugs.

Quick answer

To escape the telepath’s trap in Marvel’s Wolverine, destroy the two incense burners in the looping room. During the later illusion sequence, normal attacks cannot damage the enemies: parry their Power Attacks, then press L2 + R2 to perform Impaling Strikes. After enough enemies are defeated, follow the on-screen prompts when the Hand Telepathist appears.

Destroy the two incense burners

After interacting with the incense burner near Jean, enter the newly opened passage and turn left near the end of the tunnel. The next room fills with red incense, and going through the doorway in the far-right corner places Logan in a loop.

You must destroy two incense burners:

  1. Walk to the end of the room.
  2. Turn left near the torch by the far wall.
  3. Break through the boxes and partition to reach the first incense burner.
  4. Interact with it to destroy it.
  5. Go through the doorway beside the torch.
  6. Find the second incense burner on the left and destroy it.

Once both burners are destroyed, return through the far-right doorway to leave the loop. You can then turn right to find a Material Crate behind the crates before continuing along the torch-lit path.

How to survive the later illusion sequence

After following the path through the cavern and reaching the traditional Japanese building, charge through the shoji screen to begin another illusion sequence.

Normal attacks do not damage the enemies here. Instead, dodge or parry their regular attacks until one uses a Power Attack, identified by the red glint from its weapon.

When an enemy performs a Power Attack:

  • Successfully parry it if possible.
  • Logan will still have a blade lodged in him afterward.
  • Press L2 + R2 to use an Impaling Strike.
  • Repeat the process until the enemies are defeated.

Failing to parry the Power Attack causes more damage and significantly reduces Logan’s temporary Max HP. A successful parry reduces the damage and the severity of the Max HP reduction. The Impaling Strike heals Logan and removes the Max HP reduction modifier.

Defeat the Hand Telepathist

After enough Impaling Strikes, rush through the shoji screen at the top of the steps. The Hand Telepathist then appears and attacks Logan during a cutscene.

Press the buttons shown on screen to finish the encounter. The illusion fades after the sequence ends.

Reported progression bug

Community-reported workaround

One player reported a bug in the “escape the telepath’s trap” section where an illusion continued spawning enemies after the new ability was used. The enemies would not die, and the ability could no longer be used.

The player reported that restarting from the last checkpoint allowed the sequence to complete after using the ability once. The report did not identify what caused the bug or how to reproduce it, so restarting from the checkpoint is a reported workaround rather than a confirmed fix for every occurrence.
